We recommend only leaving the radio in the charger for the amount of time it takes to fully charge the battery. Leaving the radio on charge for a few extra hours will not have an impact. However, leaving the battery to charge for more than a few days at a time can contribute to premature wear on your battery.
How can I check to see if my radio is receiving correctly? I don’t seem to hear anyone talking.Try switching the radio over to the Weather channel mode. When you are in this mode the USA will disappear and be replaced by WX on your screen. Make sure you check all 10 weather channels to find your local one. If you receive weather loud and clear, this is a good sign your radios receiver is working as the radio only has one receiver. You may be out of range of other boaters, or you may be listening on channels no one is actively using at the time.
Why can others not hear me when I transmit? There are several reasons this can happen which are not a fault of the radio. Make sure you test with another person who is aware you will test your radio with theirs. Check that both radios are on a common non-emergency channel such as channel 68. Speak clearly directly into the microphone hole opening with your mouth no more than 2 inches away. Try setting your radio to Hi transmit power.
I am transmitting in an area with lots of boats and no one responds to me. Why is this happening?Although there are other boaters near you, 1) they must have their radio turned on, 2) they must be on the same channel, 3) be able and willing to respond to your call.
How much range can I expect from my radio?Transmit range can vary widely with the same radio. Using the stock antenna at sea level you may only get a mile or two of transmit range. The same radio up with the antenna 20ft above sea level can transmit much further as the signal is not obstructed/absorbed by the water.
When I press the talk button (PTT) my radio’s display will shut off and restart. Why does this happen? The radio will shut down to protect itself. This will happen when the radio is unable to get sufficient “energy” from the power source. 1. Make sure your battery is fully charged. 2. Most batteries even when well cared for may still need to be replaced after a few years. 3. If you have a voltmeter, you can check your battery for DC voltage. If you read 6 volts or below, the battery may have to be replaced. The closer to 0 volts, the worse the condition of your battery.
Compact, ergonomic case design is a result of the new internal, large capacity 1850 mAh Lithium Ion battery technology. This gives the radio a much smaller case design yet light enough to float face up if dropped in the water
Water Activated Emergency Strobe lightIf the radio falls in the water an emergency strobe light is automatically activated, even when the unit is turned off!!! The strobe can be reconfigured to flash on and off, flash SOS, or set to stay on continuously.
Oversized full dot matrix displayThe HX210 boasts one of the largest displays in a compact and affordable handheld VHF. With a larger display, greater (dot matrix) resolution, and a super bright backlight there will be no mistaking the information displayed on the face of the radio day or night.
E20 Easy to Operate Menu SystemKeeping the everyday Boater in mind, the intuitive menu system allows easy access of all of the setup functions of the radio, making it easy to customize settings based on the preferences of the individual
Built in FM Broadcast band receiveThe HX210 has an expanded receiver allowing the user to tune in to their favorite FM radio station. The radio will receive FM broadcast bands between 76 MHz to 108 MHz.
